What is adobe reader

Adobe Acrobat is a family of computer programs developed by Adobe Systems, designed to view, create, manipulate and manage files in Adobe's Portable Document Format (PDF)[1]. Some software in the family is commercial, and some free of charge (freeware). Adobe Reader (formerly Acrobat Reader) is available as a no-charge download from Adobe's web site, and allows the viewing and printing of PDF files.[2] Acrobat and Reader are widely used as a way to present information with a fixed layout similar to a paper publication.

There’s much more to the application than you see at first glance. Reader hashidden tools, preferences, and options that can enhance your experienceand give you greater control over how your work area is arrangedand displayed.

If the Adobe Acrobat plugin is enabled, PDF files should open in thebrowser window or tab. If that's not happening, make sure that "DisplayPDF in browser" is selected within your Adobe Reader programpreferences, under "Internet". If it is already selected, "toggle" thesetting as follows: [1]

  1. In Adobe Reader, choose "Edit -> Preferences -> Internet".
  2. Deselect "Display PDF In Browser" and then click OK.
  3. Choose "Edit -> Preferences -> Internet"
  4. Select "Display PDF In Browser" and then click OK.

To verify that the plugin is enabled, close and reopen Firefox or Mozilla Suite/SeaMonkey, then go to the about:plugins list of installed plugins and make sure you see an entry listed for Adobe Acrobat (File name: nppdf32.dll).
